Nestides Tide Chart

Description

Tide Chart helps WordPress site owners publish tide information directly on their websites through a shortcode-based tide display for marine and coastal use cases.

The plugin is built for websites such as:

• marinas
• boating and fishing businesses
• coastal guides and blogs
• waterfront rentals and tourism sites
• marine-focused WordPress projects

After activation, Tide Chart adds an admin workflow where you can review the plugin terms, select a station, save your settings, and manage the plugin’s service-backed setup.

On the front end, Tide Chart renders tide output directly inside WordPress content through a shortcode-based display.

Tide Chart requires the Nestides hosted service for tide predictions, station lookup, service-plan and usage information, and administrator-initiated account functions. See the External Services section below for details about the services contacted, when they are contacted, and what data is sent.

Tide Chart uses NOAA-derived tide prediction data through the Nestides service. NOAA is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, this plugin.

Usage

Basic usage:

[tide_data]

Override the saved station:

[tide_data station= »8730561″]

Override the station and number of days displayed:

[tide_data station= »8730849″ range= »30″]

If no station is provided, Tide Chart uses the station saved in the admin settings.

The range attribute controls the number of days displayed. Tide Chart supports values from 1 to 30 days. Values below 1 are normalized to 1 day, and values above 30 are normalized to 30 days.

External Services

Tide Chart relies on external services for core tide and station functionality and for certain administrator-initiated service and billing actions. These services are described below.

Nestides and the Applacadabra service host

Tide Chart requires the Nestides hosted service for tide prediction delivery, station lookup, service-plan and usage information, and administrator-initiated account actions.

Tide Chart contacts the Nestides service through this host as follows:

• Tide predictions: when a Tide Chart shortcode is rendered, the plugin sends the selected tide station identifier, requested begin and end dates, the service API key, and the site installation identifier so the requested tide data can be returned.
• Station lookup: when an administrator uses the station-selection workflow, the plugin sends the visible map bounds, the service API key, and the site installation identifier so available stations in that area can be returned.
• Service plan, entitlement, catalog, and usage information: when Tide Chart needs current service information or an administrator views related information, the plugin sends the service API key and site installation identifier. Usage requests also include the requested usage month.
• Checkout, billing management, cancellation, and checkout completion: when an administrator starts checkout, opens billing management, cancels or changes service access, or completes a checkout return, Tide Chart sends information needed for that action. Depending on the action, this can include the service API key, site installation identifier, site URL, selected plan or price identifier, WordPress admin return URL, or checkout session token.

These requests are necessary for the service-backed Tide Chart functions described above.

Stripe-hosted billing

Nestides uses Stripe for paid service-plan checkout and billing management. Stripe is involved only when an administrator chooses a paid-plan checkout or billing-management action; normal tide display and station lookup do not use Stripe.

For these administrator-initiated actions, the Nestides service may provide Stripe with the selected price, site installation identifier, a hashed service-key reference, site URL and return URLs, and an existing Stripe customer identifier when applicable.

After a Stripe session is created, the administrator’s browser is redirected to a Stripe-hosted Checkout or Billing Portal page. Payment and billing information entered there is provided directly to Stripe. Tide Chart does not receive or store payment-card numbers.

OpenStreetMap map tiles

The WordPress admin station-selection map uses OpenStreetMap map tiles to display the map background during station selection.

When an administrator opens the Tide Chart station-selection map, the browser requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap tile servers. These requests can include standard browser request information such as the administrator’s IP address and browser user agent. Tide Chart uses OpenStreetMap map tiles only in the WordPress admin station-selection workflow.
