Description
DX Category Reports is a simple plugin that builds simplified timeline reports for your blogging or content marketing efforts over time.
The plugin will provide a report of the number of published posts month by month, grouped by a category. It’s lightweight and flexible – check out the Screenshots tab.

Installation
Upload the plugin to your blog and activate it. It would work as is.

Does what it says: for any selected category, it generates a list displaying the number of posts published in that category sorted by month.
I have been looking for something like this for many years and have wasted who knows how many hours pulling this sort of stats via the « all posts » filtered view. This is particularly helpful if you want to keep an eye on trends for your content.
